The 50th ratification!
Inhumane, indiscriminate and illegal. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons will enter into force on 22 January 2021.
On 24 October 2020, Honduras became the 50th state to ratify the treaty, triggering the process for entry into force.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the treaty’s entry into force on 22 January 2021, crowns a worldwide movement “to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons” and “is a tribute to the survivors of nuclear explosions and tests, many of whom advocated for this treaty”.
