The Australia Institute and Quit Nukes have assessed the policy and practice of Mercer Superannuation.

Information is valid as of October 2021.

ABOUT mercer

Mercer Superannuation is a retail superannuation fund, offering the MySuper Mercer Smart Path option as well as a number of ready-made and select-your-own investment options, including some socially responsible investment options.

Mercer Superannuation should include nuclear weapons in the definition of controversial weapons, ensure all companies that derive revenue from nuclear weapons are excluded with a 0% revenue threshold, and divest from all current nuclear weapons holdings.

Mercer does not have an adequate policy on nuclear weapons.

While Mercer applies a fund-wide screen for controversial weapons, nuclear weapons are not included in the definition of controversial weapons. Mercer policy permits screening for products that are deemed to cause an unacceptable level of harm, which ought to capture nuclear weapons.

As at 30 December 2020, Mercer invested in 13 nuclear weapons producers.
